Retired priest admits indecent assaults on boys
A retired priest, who is believed to have worked as a director at a Sudbury silk weaving firm, has admitted sexually abusing two teenage boys.
John Dossor pleaded guilty to six charges of indecent assault against children between 1990 and 1994 at Ipswich Crown Court last month.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) then asked the court for time to consult with the victims in the case and to decide whether the basis of plea would be acceptable.
At Ipswich Crown Court yesterday, the CPS decided to accept the pleas entered by Dossor, who is thought to have worked at Stephen Walters & Sons in Cornard Road until 2001, and not to proceed with the remaining counts.
The 71-year-old, who retired as a priest of St Mary at the Elms in Ipswich six years ago, had admitted sexual offences against two separate boys – aged between 16 and 17 and 13 and 15 at the time of the incidents.
The indecent assaults were carried out while Dossor was working at his first parish in Shelley, near Hadleigh. He was there from 1990 and 2004.
Nikki Miller, reviewing solicitor for the CPS, said she was pleased with the outcome of the hearing.
“Dossor has admitted a significant amount of the charges against him and we are grateful the victims in this case will not have to face a lengthy trial and relive their ordeal at the hands of this man,” she said.
Dossor, from Kirton, will be sentenced at Norwich Crown Court at a date yet to be fixed. Stephen Walters was unavailable for comment.
