The rural Dean of Clare will remain on police bail for a further six weeks as a fraud investigation continues.
The Rev Ian Finn, who is also an honorary Canon at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, was arrested in March following claims that money – received from weddings and funerals – had gone missing.
The 55-year-old was suspended by the Church of England after a number of “financial irregularities” were brought to light.
He said that any money owed to the diocese had been paid and issues were due to an accounting error.
In a statement, The Archdeacon of Sudbury, the Venerable David Jenkins, said: “The irregularities relate to the payment of fees that should have passed to the diocese for services.
“Canon Finn has explained that this was entirely the result of administrative and accounting mistakes rather than any deliberate actions.”
Mr Finn answered police bail on Wednesday and was told to return on June 26.
