Racist gang beat up Turkish man in Sudbury

A GANG of thugs has been sentenced to a total of nine years behind bars between them for a racist attack on a Turkish man.

Sudbury's most senior policeman, Inspector Paul Crick, described the incident in the town centre as being "like a pack of wolves picking on the weakest".

The seven men, then all aged between 17 and 19, struck Cetin Ustabas more than 50 times as he lay helpless on the ground.

The racially-aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm took place on East Street at around 3.30am on May 10 last year, after the group had been on a alcohol-fuelled bender.

Jonathan Smith, 18, of Highbury Way, Great Cornard, was sentenced to 18 months detention, as was Steven Fuller, 19, of Sycamore Road, Great Cornard.

Curtis Martin, 19, of Woodhall Road, Sudbury, and Carl Adams, 19, of Second Avenue, Sudbury, both face 15 months detention.

Liam Russell, 19, of Woodhall Close, Sudbury, received 18 months imprisonment, while Scott Lawrence, 20, the oldest in the group, of Church Square, Bures, was jailed for 23 months,

Bradley Houghton, 18, of Mountbatten Close, Sudbury, was sentenced to 12 months in detention, suspended for 18 months.
