Pilot dies in plane crash

A pilot was killed after his light aircraft crashed in Aldham near Hadleigh.

The plane came down in the village at around 11.20am on Saturday. It struck a tree, before plunging into a pond near a farmhouse.

Emergency services were called, but the pilot – a man who has not yet been named – was pronounced dead at the scene. It is thought he died on impact.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) and police are investigating the cause of the crash. Yesterday, the AAIB recovered the plane from the scene.

A cordon and road closures around the area were also lifted yesterday afternoon.

The pilot’s next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
