Photos of Gestingthorpe war heroes are wanted by the local history group to make an interactive display in the church.
Having received a photo of John Cansell, a soldier in the First World War, (pictured right) at a recent photo day run by the group, lay minister Nick Ellis decided to see if he could collect photos of the complete village roll of honour.
The picture came from Mr Cansell’s granddaughter, who lives 10 miles away in High Garrett.
Andy Craig, chairman of the Gestingthorpe History Group, said: “John Cansell is the first name and image we can tie together. We hope to track down some more.
“We are hoping to track down images of all those mentioned on the roll of honour so that an interactive display can be developed in the church for relatives or general public who might be interested.
“The church is often the first place people come to look for their family history, especially if they’re from outside the area. It would be great to have something.
Mr Craig said the display would ensure that the village “made note of the sacrifice made by the soldiers”, and would bring existing memorials up to date.
Mr Ellis who is the lay minister for Gestingthorpe, Pebmarsh and Great and Little Maplestead, was hoping to run the idea in each of the village churches.
Anybody wanting more information about the displays or the names on the rolls of honour should contact Mr Ellis on 01787 460273 or visit the history group’s Facebook page.
