Roadworks outside Tudor Primary School in Sudbury caused problems for parents and staff last week.
Headteacher Martin James said he had not been informed about the work by the county council.
“I thought they [the council] would have told me,” said Mr James.
“My main concern was having children and parents walking out into the road as the crossing was closed during the work.”
Many parents reported having to avoid repaved areas which looked like they had not set properly.
A spokesman for Suffolk County Council said it was normal procedure for water to be sprayed on to the roller as part of the process and this was what could be seen.
