Nightclub in boxing bid

BOXING and wrestling matches could soon be held at a Sudbury nightclub.

Easterns Station Lounge in Station Road has applied to Babergh District Council for a variation of its premises licence to allow both boxing and wrestling to take place at the venue between Sundays and Thursdays.

Dave Pratt, who has owned the club for 28 years, said the growing popularity of the sports was behind the application.

“We have run boxing events at the club in the past and they have always been a success,” he said.

“This would mean we don’t have to keep putting in individual applications for one-off events.”

Mr Pratt added that his grandson, Charlie, 14, and stepsons, Callum, 16, and Billy Lloyd, 11, were all keen boxers and members of Sudbury Boxing Club.

Easterns is currently closed for refurbishment. It is expected to reopen on July 21.
