Scores of parishioners turned out to welcome their new team vicar, the Rev Sally Womersley on Thursday as she was licensed as a new team vicar at St Andrew’s Church in Bulmer.
She will help look after the 15 churches in the North Hinckford team, part of Chelsmford diocese, under team rector the Rev Margaret King.
The 15 north Essex churches include Alphamstone, Belchamp Otten, Belchamp St Paul and Belchamp Walter, Bulmer, Foxearth, Great and Little Henny, Lamarsh, Borley, Middleton, Ovington, Pentlow, Twinstead and Wickham St Paul.
The service at Bulmer Church was led by the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev Stephen Cottrell, and the Archdeacon of Stansted, the Ven Robin King.
Ms Womersley has worked in the area before as an outreach worker and returns from her previous post as chaplain at Canterbury Christchurch University.
She will live at the vicarage in Belchamp St Paul.
She said: “I’m very happy to be returning to the diocese, my sponsoring diocese, and I’m looking forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones.”
One of her first duties was to serve tea, scones and cakes at Bulmer Church.
With its newly-installed kitchen, the church is offering strawberry cream teas every Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
