Pamela White has been selected as the new chairman of Great Cornard Parish Council after Mick Cornish stepped aside.
Mrs White, who had been serving as vice-chairman since 2010, was sworn in at the council’s annual meeting on Monday night.
Neither Mrs White nor the new vice-chairman, Stewart Sheridan, who was nominated by Mrs White, were opposed in their selection.
Mrs White was nominated by the outgoing chairman who said he “could not think of a candidate who was better suited to the role”.
Mrs White, who will oversee the council until the general election, said she was a bit “daunted” by the prospect of becoming chairman but said she was “ quite happy”.
“I will have lots of support so I shouldn’t have too many problems,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to it – we will see what the next year holds.”
The council also had to make some minor changes to the structuring of its committees for the next year.
Mr Cornish stepped down from the development and planning committee, while Mr Sheridan was placed onto all committees.
