TREE-MENDOUS EFFORT: Community honours monarch after whip-round.

Residents from The Glebe in Lavenham clubbed together to raise enough money to have a tree planted on a green close to their homes to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The chosen tree, called a handkerchief tree, was planted by Roy Whitworth, chairman of Lavenham Parish Council, on Friday.

Householder Josie Sheppard, who organised the tribute and is pictured centre, said: “I asked all the residents for a contribution and we had a vote on the kind of tree to be planted. The surplus from the donations enabled a cheque for £120 to be sent to St Nicholas Hospice Care.”
