Monks Eleigh man, 20, was ‘very special’

A STUDENT who died after being hit by a train in Little Cornard was “very special” and had a bright future ahead of him.
Andrew Towers, from Foysters Hall in Monks Eleigh, was killed when he was struck by a train close to a level crossing last Tuesday afternoon.
The 20-year-old, who was due to return to Durham University for his third year studying chemistry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death has shocked and saddened those who knew the former Great Cornard Upper School pupil.
On Monday night, a minute’s silence was held at the eight-a-side Fellowship Football league where Andrew played with friends for Monks Hadleigh.
Peter Messenger, who coached the team at Great Cornard Leisure Centre and also knew Andrew from his time running Monks Eleigh Youth Club, said he would be sorely missed.
“We are all shocked and devastated,” said Mr Messenger, from Lower Byfield, Monks Eleigh.
“I had known Andrew for 12 years, as he grew up in our youth club and regularly attended all our functions, joining in with great enthusiasm.
“He was a thoroughly decent human being and a very special young man who we are proud to have known.”
