A man who collapsed on a pavement in Sudbury has been reunited with a teenager who was first on the scene and who gave him first aid.

Jerry Hall, from Lucas Road, was reading a story in the Free Press last week about how 16-year-old Luke Stone put his recently-acquired first aid skills into practice after finding a man lying semi-conscious in Cornard Road.

“I was reading the story and, when I looked at the picture, I realised it was about me,” said Jerry, who is recovering at home from the fall which was due to his blood sugar levels getting too high.

“I thought I should get in contact with Luke to tell him how much I appreciate him helping me. I wanted to say thank you for everything.”

Jerry, 59, who was diagnosed with diabetes last year, began feeling unwell while shopping. He decided not to drive, and left his car in Waitrose’s car park.

“I don’t remember much about what happened really, except that I felt unwell and the next thing was I was lying on the ground hugging a car,” he said.

“I recall voices and then I woke up in hospital. I didn’t even know where I was.”

Mr Hall’s ex-wife Trudy Bradley, who came into the Free Press offices on Tuesday to help find Luke and to thank him, praised the teenager’s actions.

She said: “I work for the ambulance service and I know that those early actions are really critical. Luke did absolutely the right thing by putting Jerry into the recovery position and we have a lot to thank him for.”

The couple’s two sons, Keiron, 27, and Jonathon, 25, are both working in Australia. Keiron, who has had diabetes since the age of 12, flew back four days after the incident to be with his father.
