A man suffered serious injuries to his legs after being crushed between a van and a skip lorry in Leavenheath.

Emergency services were called to High Road at around 8.40am this morning after a Vauxhall Vivaro van collided with a stationary skip lorry.

A man in his 50s, who was operating the skip, was caught between the two vehicles.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to Colchester General Hospital.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said the man had sustained “serious injuries” as a result of the collision.

“We treated a man who suffered injuries to his abdomen and legs,” he said.

“His injuries are not thought to be life threatening and he has been conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”

Police are keen for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to get in touch with them.

Officers particularly want to hear from those who had been operating a refuse truck along the road where the accident took place, and who were believed to be around at the time.

The road was closed for a number of hours while the scene was cleared and investigations carried out.

Anyone with information should contact Pc Dave Shaw at Suffolk Police on 101, quoting CAD 76 of 14/3/14.
