A Foxearth man has narrowly avoided being sent to prison after being found guilty of assault.

Edward Cowling, of Temple End Cottages, had denied attacking Sean Knight in Sudbury on July 22 but was found guilty of the charge at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was handed a prison sentence of 26 weeks suspended for 12-months.

He was also told to pay £500 in compensation to the victim of the assault, Sean Knight, and £620 in crown prosecution costs.

Cowling was also ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge.
