A man has died after being hit by a van on the A134 at Assington.

Police were contacted by a driver at around 6.20pm on Sunday, who reported she was concerned about a man walking along the road.

Officers immediately went to the area to see if the man could be located.

A second call was then received from a driver of a Ford Transit van who reported he had been involved in a collision on the road between Newton and Assington at about 6.30pm.

At around 7.30pm the body of a man in his mid 20s was found. The man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed while a preliminary investigation took place and police are asking anyone who may have been in the area around this time to come forward.

Calls should be made to the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101.
