A Great Cornard man accused of carrying out a string of sex offences against a young boy, including rape, is to stand trial.

Timothy Wright, of Cherrytree Road, Great Cornard, appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The 50-year-old, who has been charged with five offences, is alleged to have indecently assaulted a boy aged under 14 on four occasions between January 18, 1980, and January 17, 1981.

He is also accused of one count of rape. The alleged offences are said to have taken place in Chelmsford.

Wright, who is yet to enter a plea, was granted conditional bail until July 28 when he will attend Chelmsford Crown Court for a further hearing.
