Leak runs up huge bill

A CEMETERY tap used to water flowers around graves has had to be switched off after a leak ran up a colossal water bill.

The tap, in Lavenham Cemetery in Bridge Street Road, was turned off last month when the parish council was alerted to a leak after getting a nasty surprise with its usual utility bills.

Jane Bellward, parish council clerk, said: “We had a bill for £1,200 about a month ago, when normally it is £30 for the water. It was turned off because of the leak. It is not for financial reasons and we’re now working towards getting the supply put back on.”

She said that she hoped the tap would be working again in the next few weeks.

“We might not put it back in the same place, it may need to go in a different location but we aren’t cutting it off permanently,” she said.
