A camera has been installed at Belle Vue Park in Sudbury in a bid to crack down on after-hours drinking and vandalism.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area following reports that teenagers have been scaling the walls to get inside the park in Newton Road after it has closed.

As a further deterrent, an anti-social behaviour camera has now been installed to monitor any trouble.

“We were getting reports of underage drinking and damage to the windows at Belle Vue, so a camera from Babergh District Council has been attached to a nearby lamppost,” said Pc Michael Johnson at a Sudbury Town Council meeting on Tuesday.

“It is a 360-degree camera. There has not been any problems since it was put in place.”

Pc Johnson added that a police cadet scheme was being set up. A meeting for those interested will be held at Ormiston Sudbury Academy on Wednesday at 6pm.
