Five Hadleigh students have embarked on a big fundraising mission to raise thousands of pounds to fund cultural exchange trips overseas.
The quintet from Hadleigh High School are planning educational trips to Japan, Mexico and Finland, and are hoping that an Easter fair, to be held at the school next month, will raise a big proportion of the funds they need, with other events being planned for later in the year.
Bethanie Clements, Ellenor Norman and Charlotte Woodmore, all 16, have secured places to go to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in July 2015.
More than 40,000 youngsters will gather in Japan from more than 150 countries for two weeks of cultural exchange and Scouting.
Only 36 places were allocated for Suffolk, and the three school friends were lucky enough to be selected.
Explorers Katy Gant, 15, and Charlotte Stiff, 15, are going to take part in community projects in Mexico and Finland.
Mum Suzanne Clements, from High Street, Bildeston, said her daughter, Bethanie, has been involved with Scouting since the age of five.
“We are doing lots of fundraising for the trips, including a jumble sale on Saturday and a quiz evening in Bildeston on March 29,” she said.
The girls have planned their own fundraising Easter fair at Hadleigh High School on Wednesday, March 26, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and they will share the proceeds of the event for all their trips.
“It should be a good event and the girls’ mums are getting involved,” added Suzanne. “In fact, we’d like to hear from anyone who might like to have a stall or if anyone has any unwanted gifts they would like to donate to the school, they would be much appreciated.”
