A Long Melford weight loss group leader will be bearing the freezing waters of the ice bucket challenge that has been sweeping the nation in Sudbury market square on Saturday.

Vicky Stebbings, 46, who runs the Lavenham branch of the Slimming World Group, will be facing the pain of having a ice and water filled bucket tipped over her head in aid of motor neurone disease charities, after being nominated by fellow leader Kath Hampshire, who runs the Great Cornard class.

The challenge sees nominees soaked in videos placed on social network site Facebook, before nominating up to three others to take on the challenge.

This week Sudbury’s firefighters have also been braving the cold water in the name of charity.

The event will take place between 1pm and 4pm in Sudbury’s market Hill, where Slimming World leaders from the area will be hosting a stand and giving away free goody bags and brochures.
