Hotel chain in talks for Sudbury park land

Hotel chain Premier Inn is in discussions with Babergh District Council over the possibility of buying land at Belle Vue Park in Sudbury.

An approach was made last year by the company for an area at the front of the site in Newton Road, according to Ryan Jones, the council’s corporate manager for asset management.

“We had an approach from a hotel chain for the whole swimming pool area last year,” he said, adding that the move had been put on hold while Premier Inn assessed its strategy for acquiring sites.

Simon Barrett, district councillor, said the front area of the site had been “identified for disposal”.

Premier Inn confirmed that it was interested in Sudbury but nothing had been agreed yet.

Babergh’s proposed budget for 2013/2014 has earmarked up to £800,000 for either refurbishment or replacement of Belle Vue House, which currently houses Sudbury and District Citzens Advice Bureau, The Hub youth club, 12Plus student service and Education Other Than At School.
