A life of living on the balcony of a London flat, watching the world go by without walkies, has contributed to Honey piling on the pounds.

But now the four-year-old rescued labrador is being helped to shed weight after being put on a strict diet, with exercise four times a day.

Sue Wilson, her foster carer, from Sesaw, the animal rescue centre in Leavenheath, says Honey is well on her way to becoming fitter and finding a new home.

Sue said: “When she first arrived, she weighed 46kgs. At her latest weigh-in, she was down to 40.5kgs. But she should be around 26 to 27kgs.

“She’s a lovely girl, but she did like eating all the pies,” added Sue, who lives in Acton.

Sue says that Honey, despite spending all her life on a balcony, is now enjoying her walks, and doesn’t seem to worry about food so much.

“She is getting used to socialising and seems quite bold,” she said. “She goes to sleep on a blanket in the kitchen but upgraded the other day to the sofa.”

Honey, who is now affectionately called The Honey Monster, has her own internet page at www.justgiving.com/thehoneymonster where her story is covered.

It details how she came to Sesaw just before Christmas, and how her dieting is raising vital cash for the rehoming charity, which is currently looking for new volunteers.

Sesaw wants to find Honey a happy new home where her diet and exercise regime can continue – and is asking for people to call 01787 210888 for more details – and to contribute to Sesaw fundraising by going online and contributing to Honey’s Just Giving page.

Sesaw fundraising organiser Patricia Ferdinando said: “January is often the time for new diets, and The Honey Monster is doing well on hers.”
