Homes under spotlight
PROPOSALS for 45 new homes in Lavenham, on a former cosmetics factory site, are being considered for the first time by parish councillors in two weeks’ time.
A development company called Knight Developments, from Kelvedon, Essex, has made a formal planning application to Babergh District Council for homes with garages in Preston Road, including open spaces and a play area, on land known as the former Amorex site.
This follows a pre-application discussion with the council about the 1.48-hectare site located on the northern edge of the village.
Lavenham Parish Council clerk Jane Bellward said the factory buildings had recently been demolished after lying empty for “many years”.
“This is the first time the application will be seen by any of the parish councillors when they meet on August 2,” she said. “We had been expecting something to happen with this land because it has been empty for many years.”
In a design statement by Knight Developments, the company said the site had been identified for potential housing by Babergh but was disregarded because of its employment use.
It said: “The site has been vacant for a number of years and there has been no success in finding a buyer with this specific use.
“Although widely advertised over a number of years, it has not been possible to sell this site for commercial or industrial use.”
