Homes plan sparks worry

AN application to build four new homes in Long Melford is expected to be given the go-ahead.

Plans to demolish a bungalow in Cordell Road and replace it with a terrace of four houses has been submitted to Babergh District Council.

The proposals, which have been put forward by Oliver Ruse, would see the properties built in a style in keeping with the other homes in the street.

However, the council has received complaints that the plans would increase traffic in the area and add to existing problems with on-street parking.

It is also claimed that the bungalow is needed due to the rising age of the population, while any children of school age would not be eligible for the nearby primary school, as it is already at capacity.

Case officer Graham Chamberlain has recommended that the council’s development committee approve the plans.

“The proposals would not result in an over-development of the site and would have due regard to the street scene, conservation area and character of the area,” he said.

The application is set to be discussed on Wednesday.
