History link with village

A PLAY with a special connection to Glemsford – about the life of Thomas Wolsey who rose to become King Henry VIII’s right hand man – is being staged in the village’s church on September 6.

Playright Suzanne Hawkes, of Felixstowe, says she wanted to put on a performance of her work at St Mary’s in Glemsford because of its connection with Wolsey. George Cavendish, Wolsey’s servant and biographer, retired to Glemsford, and the play looks at Wolsey’s life through his servant’s eyes.

“I really wanted to have the play take the place in churches that have a connection with the story like Glemsford,” said Suzanne, who has put on 10 sell-out performances in other churches.
