TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Sudbury Upper School student who died while teaching in Thailand.

Liam Steer collapsed after suffering a heart attack as he taught a class of schoolchildren in Krabi on Thursday.

The 27-year-old had been living in the country for six years after leaving the Tudor Road school and working at the Dephi. He was head of English at Chokchai school in the southern province of Thailand and had previously taught in Bangkok.

Mr Steer’s mum, Jan Carrigan, said her son had been “living life to the full” with his Thai girlfriend Bee.

“He was so happy there,” she said.

“He was a fantastic son, had a great sense of humour and was a brilliant teacher. The children are distraught because he died while teaching.”
