Fiona Bruce, the BBC newsreader, has written a mixed review of Sudbury as an ‘unsung attraction’ for visitors.
In her article, published as part of the Fiona Bruce’s Britain series on The Telegraph’s website, she said: “Recession has taken its toll. Among the cheerful independent cafés, there are forlorn empty premises and an overabundance of charity shops.”
She criticised St Peter’s as “a relic of past observance” but also praised Gainsborough’s House as “an astonishing collection of some of Gainsborough’s finest work” and the water meadows as capable of inspiring other artists.
