Hadleigh police get extra powers to tackle street drinking

Street drinkers in Hadleigh may have alcohol taken away by police after councillors approved new measures against antisocial behaviour on Tuesday.

Babergh District Council approved the designated public places order (DPPO), which covers the majority of the town and means police are able to seize alcohol from street drinkers without them exhibiting antisocial or drunken behaviour first.

District councillor Brian Riley, who represents Hadleigh north, said: “We have been working on this for about five years. It is absolutely good news for Hadleigh.”
