Groups boosted by festival money

PROCEEDS from a record-breaking year for Sudbury’s Christmas Tree Festival were donated to good causes this week.
The event, which was held at St Peter’s in December, attracted more than 7,000 visitors and saw 89 exhibitors displaying trees.
A total of £4,600 was raised from the festival, which was running for its ninth year, and these funds were shared between four different groups.
During a presentation at Newton Green Golf Club on Monday, £1,800 was given to the Royal British Legion, which will put the money towards the Personal Rehabilitation Unit in Colchester.
Funds of £1,200 were donated to The Friends of St Peter, with the remaining £1,600 divided between Sudbury and Sudbury Talbot Rotary Clubs, which ran the festival.
Rotarian Valerie Goodchild said: “Everybody is very supportive of the festival and it is great to be able to hear about where the money is going.
“The festival brings so many people into St Peter’s and all the money raised is put to good use.”
