Green approach pays off for new taxi owners
AN investment of £150,000 in environmentally-friendly cars has paid dividends for a Sudbury taxi company.
Jodie Googe, from Church Walk in Sudbury, and Glen Outerbridge, from Great Cornard, had worked for Sudbury Town Taxis in Addison Road for a total of 15 years before buying the company in April.
The pair immediately began to modernise the company and improve its environmental credentials.
“We bought the company with the intention of buying a new fleet of eco-friendly vehicles, as the world is going that way,” said Miss Googe. “Everybody is thinking about the environment and rightly so.”
Having started out with eight drivers and six running vehicles, Miss Googe and Mr Outerbridge have so far bought four Toyota Priuses and two Seat Alhambras, with a Volkswagen Transporter on order.
“It is difficult finding the right car for the job in the taxi trade, especially when trying to go green, but these are wonderfully innovative vehicles,” explained Miss Googe.
“We’ve invested £150,000 so far, including the cars on order, and taken on five new drivers – I can only see that continuing.”
