Glemsford pensioner John Suttle found guilty of indecency offences

A GLEMSFORD pensioner described as an "outstanding member" of the local community has been convicted of indecency offences committed more than 30 years ago.

John Suttle, 77, had denied the ten charges against him but was found guilty on Thursday, February 25 by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court.

He was convicted of seven offences of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child, relating to one girl and a single offence of indecent assault on her younger sister.

Judge John Devaux told Suttle that sentencing would take place on a date yet to be arranged. In the meantime Suttle has been granted bail.

The pensioner had been arrested and charged in 2008 following allegations made by two women, who had been schoolgirls at the time they said Suttle had indecently assaulted them.

Both women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, gave evidence to the court about incidents both at Suttle's home in Skates Hill, Glemsford and at a holiday cottage on the Suffolk coast more than three decades ago.
