Four arrests as police carry out series of raids

Four arrests were made and seven warrants executed as police officers swooped on households across Babergh last week.

Three teams of officers carried out a series of raids on Wednesday following months of gathering intelligence.

Among the arrests was Anthony Lee, from Suffolk Square in Sudbury, who was arrested on suspicion of dishonestly using electricity. The 39-year-old appeared at Bury St Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

A 41-year-old woman from Hadleigh was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has been bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on March 12.

A 63-year-old man from Sudbury was also given a police warning for possession of cannabis, and a £540 fine was issued for the unauthorised use of red diesel.

Sudbury Police Inspector Paul Crick said: “This operation has produced some pleasing results, which send out a clear message to anyone who is thinking of committing an offence not just in Babergh but throughout the county.

“While we were aiming to target people responsible for crime in the area, we also wanted to give reassurance to residents and make them feel safer.

“Crime may have fallen in the district and the county, but this operation shows that we are not complacent and we will continue to target those offending.”

To report any criminal activity, call Suffolk Police on 101.
