Designs for a new centre piece for a former drinking fountain – mentioned in 101 Dalmatians – have been praised.
The fountain outside St Peter’s in Sudbury featured in Dodi Smith’s famous tale when dalmatian Pongo stopped for a midnight drink.
A spire on the structure was knocked off 20 years ago and town councillor John Sayers has been working with the Freeman’s Trust and Luxstone stonemasons to replace it.
The plans have now received the backing of Sudbury Town Council.
“We support the proposal of restoring it to fit with the original designs,” said Russell Smith, chairman of the council’s leisure and environment committee.
