Every one a winner in Sudbury Fun Run
Dark clouds and a freezing, howling wind greeted Sudbury's fun runners this year.
Hundreds braved the elements on Good Friday to walk and run the five-mile course through Sudbury and Great Cornard – and in the process raised thousands of pounds for good causes.
Firemen, nurses and pirates joined hardy souls in emu outfits and the serious club-runners at the start in North Street.
At the finish line at Great Cornard Upper School, Peter Beer, chairman of Great Cornard Parish Council, shook everyone's hand as runners each received a medal for braving the icy blasts and showers of sleet and rain.
He said: "If people can turn out on a day like this and put in this sort of effort, then the least we can do is come along and shake everyone's hand.
"It was a tremendous effort by the Rotary Club to organise this event and by the look of some of the shattered walkers and runners at the finish line they all got through it – I really do admire them."
Money raised from the entry fees will go towards vital funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance service.
Many taking part were raising sponsorship money for charities close to their hearts.
Kirsty Lee, of Great Cornard, dressed as a nun and running with her dog Skye, was raising money for the Eating Disorder Association.
She said it was brilliant to see so many people out on a cold day fundraising for good causes.
She said: "I suffered with this myself for many years but after receiving treatment in Chelmsford I was determined to help others.
"There is nothing in this area to help people and it is not being given a big enough profile despite the numbers that are suffering, so I was not going to let the winter weather stop me."
The race, sponsored by Waitrose and organised by Sudbury Rotarians, was won by Robert Chinnery in 26 minutes and 58 seconds. First woman wasDanielle Hurley, who came in 13th in a time of 30 minutes and 17 seconds.
