Don’t dump it, swap it

ONE person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure – an adage that applies to a swap shop being held in Great Cornard on Saturday.

The Sudbury and District Transition group is staging the event to encourage people to recycle their unwanted items instead of sending them to landfill sites.

Residents are being encouraged to bring their unwanted books, toys, crockery, music, garden equipment or furniture to Old Wells Hall School, in Wells Hall Road, between 10am and 12.30pm.

At the same time, they can take away anything that catches their eye for free, while anything left at the end of the event will be donated to the town’s charity shops.

Jane Hatton, from the Transition group, said: “Hopefully, in future, it will encourage people to give more to their local charity shops rather than putting items in the bin.

“We also encourage items which charity shops don’t take, such as seeds and plants, but we are not able to accept any electrical items or anything toxic, hazardous or broken.”
