HOT on the heels of the slightly larger-scale human events in London, competitive canines descended on Boxted for a doggy Olympics on Sunday.

Around 70 entrants visited the event, which was co-organised by Jacqui Wood, of Ace Agility in Glemsford, and featured obstacle courses for dogs and owners, fancy dress events and games.

Mrs Wood said: “It was terrific fun and everybody enjoyed themselves. We managed to raise £514.13 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

This was the first year that the regular Ace Agility fundraising days were opened to the public, and is unlikely to be the last according to Mrs Wood.

“Considering we gave ourselves four weeks to arrange it all, I think we did really well,” she said.

“Between us, we have now raised more than £2,000 for various charities, but there have been a couple of incidents in the last year where the air ambulance was involved in rescuing friends and close acquaintances.

“You never know when you might need its services, so we all thought it was a worthy cause.”
