Couple to embark on 600-mile cycling challenge
A MOUNTAINOUS challenge awaits one woman as she gears up for a 600-mile cycle ride across the French Alps.
Julie Ferdinand, of Belchamp Walter, will saddle up for the gruelling ride from Calais to Morzine on Saturday.
The 52-year-old former beauty therapist and garden designer will travel to France tomorrow ahead of her nine-day challenge alongside her husband, David, 68, and four friends.
Julie is hoping to raise 5,000 for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) and wants kind-hearted people to support the ride and help boost the 2,000 pledged so far.
Julie, who is a member of the EACH Sudbury and District Support Group, said: "I am a social cyclist and have done the Friends of Essex Churches' cycle ride, but that never takes in more than 40 miles.
"We will be doing about 80 miles on the first day and then about 70 for the next eight days, so it's quite an undertaking."
