Council to rule on Boxford and Hintlesham plans

PLANS for developments in Boxford and Hintlesham will go before Babergh District Council’s development committee next week.

The applications, for six holiday cabins with access and a 107-metre long lake on land near Priory Road in Hintlesham, and 21 houses with a new access road west of Swan Street in Boxford, will be decided by councillors on Wednesday.

Both applications have been recommended for approval by district council officers despite objections being lodged.

Hintlesham Parish Council has voiced concerns that the cabins would set a precedent for future development “outside the village envelope”, while traffic would be increased and access would be inappropriate. However, letters of representation supporting the development outnumber those against by eight to two.

The proposal for Boxford was reduced from an initial 25 units, with the parish council objecting at all three consultations, while residents complained about several issues, including traffic and the number of houses.

Case officer Deborah Board has recommended the developer donate £48,000 towards education costs.
