Charity cyclists gearing up for Serbia to Sudbury challenge

AN intrepid trio, who are planning to cycle from Serbia to Sudbury next month, are urging people to back their fundraising campaign.

Bar and restaurant owner Darren Pratt, Mel Aviation managing director Gary Harvey and Tony Treacey, who also works for Mel Aviation in Sudbury, are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Help for Heroes when they undertake the 1,800-mile journey

Tony said: "We are covering our own expenses so every penny raised will go to the two charities, who both do so much good work.

"It has been hard for people financially recently but it doesn't matter how much you donate, it all adds up."

Before leaving Sudbury on April 25, the friends plan to hold a family-friendly bike ride around the town, starting from Mel Aviation in Addison Road on the Chilton Industrial Estate at 10.30am and finishing on the Market Hill in Sudbury.

Later the same day, adult riders are invited to accompany Tony, Gary and Darren on the first leg of their journey from Sudbury to Harwich, where they will be catching a ferry.

The 34-mile sponsored bike ride will mostly follow minor roads and travel through the picturesque Dedham Vale. Entry costs 10 and includes a specially printed Cycle for Heroes T-shirt and refreshments. Cycle helmets are essential for both events.
