Charities split fun run money

MORE than £6,000 has been presented to charities supported by this year’s Sudbury Fun Run.
The town’s Helping Hands charity and St Nicholas Hospice Care were both handed cheques totalling £3,200, which was raised through the annual race.
Around 500 runners and 250 walkers took part in the five-mile fun run through the streets of Sudbury and Great Cornard on Good Friday.
The event, which has been running for the last two decades, was organised by Sudbury Joggers and sponsored by Glemsford firm Philips Avent.
Jonathan Price, chairman of Sudbury Joggers and the fun run committee, said he was delighted with the effort put in by all those who raised money on the day.
“We would like to thank all the individuals who raised funds and also the people and groups without whom the fun run would not happen,” he said.
“Many people have contributed and given in different ways, such as giving up their time to be course constructors, marshals and distributors of water and these individuals are also deserving of thanks.
“The event is a real community effort and it really was very successful this year.”
Other groups which lent support included Stephen Walters and Sons, Zest gym and Sudbury in Bloom.
This year’s race was won by Wesley Benton, who completed the course in 27 minutes and four seconds.
