Centre’s future looks bright

AN adult learning centre, which has recently undergone major changes, is to be boosted by a series of fundraising events.

Earlier this year, it was feared key projects at Sudbury Resource Centre, which provides adults with learning disabilities with vocational training, may be in danger of closing.

However Leading Lives, the organisation now managing the centre on Chilton Industrial Estate, has given assurances that no projects will be shut down, while Helping Hands – a charity which supports the centre – has announced it will be running a number of fundraising events over the next six months.

Jack Owen, Helping Hands chairman, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce this programme of events to support the centre as it is vital we keep the money coming in and we hope the community continues to support us as well as it always has.

“These are exciting times and the future is looking bright for the centre. We just hope Leading Lives remains true to its promises.”

Upcoming events include a barbecue in Sudbury on July 21, followed by talent shows, a pamper evening and cooking demonstrations.

Marion Corner, centre manager, said: “The continued fundraising goes hand-in-hand with our transfer from county council control to Leading Lives, a development that should allow us to apply for a wider range of funding and help to secure the centre’s long-term future.”
