Car speed is on the radar

A COMMUNITY speed watch scheme has been officially launched in Hintlesham.

The new scheme will see volunteers working in pairs to carry out checks on vehicles using roads in the area. It aims to encourage motorists to reduce their speed and think about their driving behaviour.

Pc Gary Austin, from the Babergh East Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We currently have volunteers who will be carrying out checks within the parish and we welcome anyone who would be interested in joining us.

“Speeding is an issue that is at the heart of many local communities and these schemes offer a partnership approach to tackling the problem.

“It allows the residents of Hintlesham to take an active part in speed reduction, allowing the police to follow-up with education and enforcement.”

It is hoped the initiative will reduce the numbers of drivers exceeding the speed limit.

q Anyone interested in finding out more about the Hintlesham scheme, or volunteering, can contact Pc Austin on 101.
