Calls for an investigation into why it took nearly an hour-and-a-half for an ambulance to come to the aid of an injured footballer in Long Melford have been made.

Tim Yeo, MP for South Suffolk, has been asked to find out why Tim Attwood, from Overing Avenue, Great Waldingfield, had to wait in agony for so long on a freezing cold and wet Stoneylands pitch in Long Melford on Saturday before paramedics arrived.

The 26-year-old carpenter is recovering at home after dislocating his shoulder and cannot work for four weeks. He was forced to wait for nearly an hour and half before emergency help arrived.

Mr Yeo said: “Long Melford is not the most remote place in the country. There may well be an explanation as to why it took the time it took, but clearly this length of wait is not acceptable.”
