The discovery of a stolen purse in a charity shop has prompted one of its volunteers to take action.

Ivy Pound found a purse in the pocket of a coat while working at the Cancer Research UK store on Market Hill, Sudbury.

Although all the money had been taken, Mrs Pound, from Canhams Road in Great Cornard, was able to track down the owner.

After speaking with police, Mrs Pound discovered the purse was taken from Pauline Oakley in Sudbury earlier this month, and she now wants to replace the money lost in the theft.

“The people who did this are real low-lives,” said Mrs Pound. “I want to show that there are some good people about.”

Donations can be handed in at the Cancer Research UK shop.
