Brent Eleigh farm wins Suffolk Show awards

A BRENT Eleigh farm and vineyard won four awards at the Suffolk Show.

Lavenham Brook Farm, in Cock Lane, specialises in breeding Suffolk red poll cattle and Suffolk sheep, as well as producing award-winning wine.

It won awards for its red poll cattle in classes for the maiden heifer, in-calf heifer and dry cow on the first day of the Ipswich-based show, later cancelled due to high winds. In addition, it won the best group of three cattle for two bulls and a cow.

Farm manager Denise Thomas said the awards were a joint effort.

“I have a brilliant team of colleagues here at Brook Farm and it is solely down to their hard work that we won these awards,” she said.

Denise said the cattle enjoy taking part in the show but they had sensed the stormy weather that was to come.

“The cattle love going to the show and they were all settled and relaxed on the first day but towards the end they were very unsettled so I think they sensed the storm,” she added.
