Bladed weapons handed-in during Sudbury knife amnesty shredded
BLADED weapons handed in during the recent knife amnesty in Sudbury and Great Cornard have been shredded at a recycling centre.
A total of 195 knives, including a foot-long machete, several flick knives and a martial arts-style throwing "death star", were safely disposed of following a two-week initiative aimed at getting more weapons off the streets.
Secure bins were placed outside Sudbury Police Station and the Stevenson Centre in Great Cornard where people could leave knives during the joint campaign run by Suffolk Constabulary and Babergh District Council.
Acting Sergeant Barry Simpson, of the Sudbury and Great Cornard Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "It was very pleasing to have so many knives taken out of circulation in both Sudbury and Great Cornard.
"It's even better that by returning the knives to their raw materials and recycling them, they could be used for something more productive in the future."
