A charity fundraiser from Great Cornard has raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by having her hair shaved off.

Rachel Stokes, from Spicer Way, faced the razor in front of an audience of friends, family and locals at the Prince of Wales pub in New Street.

“The poor hairdresser looked more scared than I did,” said the 37-year-old. “I was just itching to get it done.”

The payroll manager at Seago and Stopps in Sudbury, who will also take part in a Race for Life mud run in Ipswich in September, is fundraising after seeing friends and family affected by cancer.

“We have had cancer in the family and one of my old school friends has terminal cancer,” she said.

On top of raising lots of money, Mrs Stokes admitted to even quite liking her new shaven look.
