Appeal for Little Cornard church bells needs to ring up £80,000

Worshippers at a Little Cornard church have set themselves the mammoth task of raising up to £80,000 to save a peal of bells that have not been rung for 200 years.

An appeal will be launched on Friday with a concert planned by one of the staunchest supporters of All Saints’ Church in Little Cornard in the weeks before he died from cancer.

The Rev Tony Moore, associate priest at the church, was so keen for the bells to ring again he was putting the final touches to the arrangements just before his death a month ago.

Mr Moore, a former mayor of Sudbury, worked with local organist Roger Green to organise the event. “He only handed it over to me the day before he died,” said Little Cornard churchwarden Robert Mackman.

The concert, which takes place at All Saints’ Church on Friday at 7.30pm features Roger Green with singers and handbell ringers. For tickets, which cost £15 including wine and cheese, call Robert Mackman on 01787 228077.
