FLYING TRIBUTE: Representatives from Sudbury Town Council, the USA Air Force and honorary members of the 486th Bombardment group laid wreaths on Independence Day.

SERVING Air Force personnel took part in a wreath-laying ceremony to remember servicemen who died in combat.

Around 30 members of the USA Air Force, who are based at RAF Mildenhall, joined representatives from Sudbury Town Council and Sudbury’s Royal Air Force Association branch as respects were paid to mark Independence Day at the war memorials near St Gregory’s Church.

The Sudbury branch of the Royal Air Force Association has laid a wreath to mark the occasion for 35 years.

Chairman Ray Smith said: “We must never forget these people who lost their lives so we could live ours today.”

One of the war memorials honours the Second World War airmen who were stationed at Great Waldingfield and lost their lives.
