100-home plan sparks fundraising scramble

A Sudbury group faces a “race against the clock” if it is to raise enough money to stop 100 homes being built on a meadow.

An outline planning application for 100 houses has been submitted for Harp Close Meadow, also known as People’s Park, by the West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust.

Campaigners have fought against the development of the area for many years.

Jill Fisher, founder of the People’s Park Preservation Association, said: “Nobody wants any houses there at all.

“It should be left for us. I feel cross and angry as it was taken away from us.”

The plans include 1.8 hectares, or 40 per cent of the site, given for open space, in the form of two spaces including play areas to the north and south of the site.
